Encodya price4/24/2023 ![]() The Chili Tots are tater tots topped with chili, cheese, red onion and sour cream, and they were pretty good! You know me, I can’t resist tater tots, and they were cooked to the way I like them. ![]() I had the Chili Tots, the Royale with Cheese Smash Burger, and the Mudslide Boozy Shake. Finally there are two menus for Poly Students for $5 and $10 items that are served all day long (and cheaper than the regular menu prices for the same items). There’s also seven sandwiches or wraps including two chicken sandwiches and two chicken wraps, as well as two preparations of hot dogs, five salads, four loaded fry preparations, three boozy shakes, and four slices of cake for dessert. On the Main Menu (for Lunch & Dinner), is their “Smash Burgers” which are to say regular burgers because what I had this time was not a smashburger (more on that later), but they come dressed 6 different ways, on the appetizers or “Shareables” there are Chili Tots, Edamame Hummus, a quesadilla, Brussels Sprouts, and 3 types of dressed wings including my favorite gaff on the menu, the “Shoyu Wings” which are dressed in a sweet and sticky chili sauce… I’m going to assume they use soy sauce in that sauce, but shoyu wings is like writing Soy Sauce Wings, if you’re not aware. From what I can tell of the Brunch Menu, you get a choice of the Breakfast Tot Bowl, Breakfast Sando, Pancakes, or the Hangover Burger as well as 9 other stations or courses of food or drink. On the Breakfast Menu there is a Breakfast Burger, oatmeal, parfait, Breakfast Sando, Breakfast Tot Bowl, Avocado Toast, among others. There are a lot of items on these menus so I’ll go with the highlights. Schoolyard is open daily for Breakfast 6 AM – 11 AM, Lunch & Dinner 11:30 AM – 10 PM, Brunch on Saturday & Sunday 10 AM – 2 PM. Each table has a QR code on it which you can place your order from too, it’s like living in the future. The bar is still there with the additional taps on the outside wall, but I’m not sure if they’re still in use, apologies for not checking that (but I had a good distraction). Of course the atrium still exists with the firepit and a cool way to enjoy the evening without being completely out in the elements, and they have a variety of outdoor and board games. The free games are partly still there, the arcade cabinet is still taking up space but wasn’t powered on when I was there, as well as the shuffleboard, but gone is the original calling card of Leroy’s the Ski Ball machine (unless I missed it). The interior has changed slightly from when it was Leroy’s, there are new tables and chairs scatter about, kind of taking away the familial atmosphere of Leroy’s for a more modern look, while making groups larger than four feel unwelcome. □The Wayfarer San Luis Obispo, 1800 Monterey St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401Īs mentioned, Schoolyard is located at The Wayfarer San Luis Obispo at the corner of Grand and Monterey. I honestly can’t tell if there was much of a change at all except for a tweaking of the theme and a new name, but I guess a little change is always worth investigating. I don’t claim to know the politics of ownership groups vs hotel chains as they’re still marked on the Pacifica Hotel group website as well as being a part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, there are still Kinney hotels and Wayfarer hotels. Now it’s had a name change, the hotel is now The Wayfarer and the restaurant is now Schoolyard with a slight menu retooling. They had a restaurant called Leroy’s, which was a popular place for trivia and karaoke for a time, attracting the college crowd as well as their parents visiting. There used to be a hotel on Grand called The Kinney, which was owned by Pacifica Hotels, then it also became a part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. Change is inevitable in this town, there are people who fight it and people who welcome it.
